After being out of service for three days, the online video game Roblox has managed to restore user access to its services, but what happened? Users of this game began to detect problems in the early hours of Friday before a crash occurred that did not allow access to players throughout the weekend.

In the end, all the players had to wait until last Sunday, October 31, for all the systems to be operational again. From The Verge the statement sent by a company spokesperson has been released, stating that the incident is due to a “growth in the number of servers in our data centers , and was not due to any spike in external traffic. nor to any particular experience ”.

In a few words, it can be summarized that the video game did not suffer any computer attack. The services were interrupted internationally around 2:00 p.m. on Friday (Spanish time) , leaving as a consequence a drop throughout the weekend that did not allow more than 40 million users to access the gaming community.

The source of the error
The company claimed not to have found the problem that had caused the fall, however, it was not until Sunday afternoon that it was investigated to obtain the definitive solution to the problem before the service was restored.

From the video game blog , David Baszucki (CEO of Roblox) indicated that the postmortem will be “published” of what happened , taking into account that he will take the necessary measures to prevent a problem of this type from occurring again. On the other hand, the CEO has also stated that there has been no loss of player data.

If we go into detail in what happened, in Baszucki’s message it can also be read that “ a central system of our infrastructure was overwhelmed, all caused by a subtle error in the communications of our backend service while it was under a great load . The result was that most of the services could not be implemented effectively. “

Some people speculated that the outage was caused by a cross-promotion with Chipotle that was launched half an hour before the issues began, however, the game claimed on its Twitter account that the issue “was not related to any experience or specific association on the platform ” .

What is Roblox?
For those who do not know, the game was born in 2006 and reached great popularity during the pandemic, taking into account that it exceeds 40 million daily users – most of them are under thirteen years old. The platform is very similar to Minecraft and allows players to develop their own worlds and titles to trade with.
