If you are going to buy an Android mobile, make sure it is with a Qualcomm processor because both brands have reached an important agreement that will benefit the industry and, above all, users.

Qualcomm and Google have teamed up to offer up to 4 years of operating system updates and security updates on Android phones with Snapdragon processors.

So far everything seems very good, but there are two drawbacks. On the one hand, this agreement begins in 2021 and, on the other hand, only mobiles with Snapdragon 888 and higher processors are accepted . At the moment it is the high-end processor that Qualcomm has presented just a few days ago.

By this we mean that the promise of guaranteed updates for 4 years will only be possible on new phones with Android and the Snapdragon 888 processor . All mobile models prior to this processor will not have software and security updates for 4 years, only for 3 years whether it is a Pixel mobile or not .

This is thanks to the Treble Project , therefore, the Qualcomm 888 processor being compatible with Treble will be able to execute up to 4 Android and security updates . This is achieved with the improvements that both powers are making to Treble.

Now updates are simpler and no longer carry inheritance from previous ones . This makes it easier for Qualcomm to adapt to various versions of software over 4 years, with the changes that this implies.

Qualcomm chips now support the same Android software implementations, both for new phones and upgrades from older phones. This reduces the percentage of combinations that the processor must support. Now, the Android update schedule will be stronger and more durable, saving deployment time and reducing errors.

Great news for end users who will not see their phones abandoned. But there is a detail, and that is that this will only be for the high range , the mid and low range will continue with its updates for a period of time between 1 and 3 years.
