Aigües Sabadell And The City Council Want To Raise European Funds

Date:

The City Council of Sabadell and Aigües Sabadell have endorsed this Friday the Biotop project , a proposal to attract European funds with which to reform the facilities of two treatment plants in the city. This is one of the 10 initiatives shared between the municipality and the company to invest around 120 million euros, as both entities have announced in a joint statement.

The Biotop has been developed during 2020 and presented to the Catalan Water Agency in December of last year, with the aim of reforming part of the activities of the water cycle in Sabadell. The shared will between both institutions is to “contribute and generate life”, through more clean energy, regenerated water and resources, clean air, among others; and “value”, with a new model of sustainable management, transparency and green occupation.

To this end, they intend to enhance the interaction between citizens and the environment, with alliances with administrations and entities, helping the “creation of the city of the future”, and generating “green occupation”; as they manifest.

The design of the Biotop seeks to stop generating 10,895 tons of CO2 each year, to recover 3 hm³ of drinking water per year, to reduce its own waste by 80% and to self-generate 19,500 MWh per year. It also aims to have an effect on employment, with the creation of 17 new jobs in direct green jobs and another 1,000 indirect ones.
