The announcement came at a celebration held at one of the company’s resorts. Employees had gathered expecting a birthday party. What they received was a share of the profits.

The formula was straightforward: one thousand dollars in Yahoo Finance-reported Red Rock Resorts stock for every year worked. Red Rock Resorts Class A stock currently trades at $54.49 per share. For most workers, that translated to a meaningful but modest award. For those who have been with the company since near its founding, the numbers were considerably larger.
Ida Johnson, who joined the company in 1977, received $49,000 worth of stock. At the current dividend payout, that holding would generate an additional $886 every year. Seven employees in total have been with Station Casinos for 45 years or more.
Paula Barrett, who has 47 years of service, put it plainly: ‘Just a complete honor to receive that check.’ Asked why she stayed so long, Barrett said: ‘We’re all comfortable. This is home for us. We love it here. We love our management here.’
Longevity like that is not accidental. It does, however, come with a caveat: the payout is in stock, not cash, which means its long-term value depends on Red Rock Resorts continuing to perform. For workers closer to retirement, a stock award carries different implications than it does for those with decades of employment still ahead.
The Fertitta family’s case for profit sharing
The announcement was made by Frank Fertitta III, chairman and CEO of Red Rock Resorts, and his brother Lorenzo Fertitta, Vice Chairman of Red Rock Resorts, according to Fortune. The brothers framed the distribution as something their father had built into the company’s DNA from the start.
‘Our father founded this company on a few simple principles: serve the local community, deliver great value, and most importantly, take care of our team members,’ Frank Fertitta III said in a statement.
Lorenzo Fertitta added: ‘This $70 million award is more than a recognition of their contributions, it is an investment in our nearly 10,000 team members, whose dedication and commitment we are deeply thankful for.’
The father they refer to is Frank Jr., who founded Station Casino’s flagship asset Bingo Palace in 1976. The company has now operated for half a century, and some of the people who joined in its earliest years are still clocking in.
Profit-sharing of this scale is uncommon in any industry, and rarer still in hospitality and gaming, where wage pressure and staff turnover are persistent challenges. A one-off stock award does not replace structural pay improvements, and the brothers have not announced any change to base compensation. What the gesture does signal, at minimum, is an ownership group willing to distribute a portion of accumulated gains to the workforce that produced them.
Whether that translates into a broader model is an open question. What is already on the record is that seven people who have spent 45 years or more at Station Casinos walked away from last Wednesday’s celebration with a financial stake in the company they helped build, and that Ida Johnson, who has been there since 1977, now holds nearly $50,000 in stock she did not have the week before.
