1) Canada

Over the past five years, Canada has been the largest exporter of pulses in the world. In 2019, Canada exported 2.4 million metric tons of pulses worth approximately $3 billion. This is up from 1.9 million metric tons exported in 2018. The increase in exports was due to higher prices for peas and lentils, which offset smaller volumes from 2018.

2) Myanmar

Myanmar is third among the top 5 pulses exporting countries in the world with an export volume of $1,156 million in 2012-13. India imports around 97% of Myanmar’s total pulse exports. Chickpeas and yellow peas are the major exported products by Myanmar with shares of 78% and 13% respectively.

3) USA

The United States exports around 2 million tons of pulses yearly to the international market with an export value of US$ 0.87 billion in 2016-17. In 2017-18, it exported 1.78 million tons of pulses worth US$ 0.89 billion to other countries in the world. The export markets for American pulses include China, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and India among others.

4) Russia

In 2018-19 Russia exported 596 thousand metric tonnes of pulses with an approximate value of 437 million US$. The major export products were split peas – 20% and dry beans – 18%.

The major export markets for the Russian pulses were Kazakhstan (15%), Yemen (11%), China (10%), Uzbekistan (7%), and Turkey (6%).

5) India

The largest producer and consumer of pulses is India in the world. In 2018 India exported 4.7 million metric tonnes with an approximate value of 3 billion US Dollars. The major export products from India were Moong/Urad, Chana, Peas, and other Pulses.
