Baked Bites Frisco students raise $8,000 through cookie sales for food-insecure children

Date:

Baked Bites Frisco students have raised more than $8,000 for charitable causes by selling homemade cookies through pre-orders and community pop-ups, channelling every dollar to Frisco Fastpacs, a nonprofit that delivers weekend meal bags to more than 1,200 food-insecure children across the district every Friday of the school year.

At a Baked Bites pop-up, the transaction looks simple: place a pre-order, collect a homemade cookie. The terms the students have set, though, are non-negotiable. All proceeds go directly to their charity partner. There is no corporate backing, no overhead designed to divert from the mission.

What the $8,000 actually buys

For the children Frisco Fastpacs serves, the weekend bags are often the primary source of food when school is not in session. The Baked Bites founders grew up in the same Frisco ISD community and chose to use what they had (a skill for baking and a willingness to show up) to address what they saw around them.

The founders are clear about what that $8,000 figure represents: not a fundraising milestone, but hundreds of people who chose to spend a few dollars on a cookie and, in doing so, chose to believe their neighbour’s hunger was worth solving. A single weekend bag costs Frisco Fastpacs very little to fill. Enough small purchases, from enough people who showed up to a pop-up or placed a pre-order, and a lot of children have been fed over a lot of Saturdays.

The scale of need in the area is considerable. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Frisco Fastpacs collected hundreds of pounds of food over a single weekend drive, with deliveries reaching more than 700 low-income students across 33 schools. That reach, built through community drives and partnerships, is the infrastructure Baked Bites feeds into with each sale.

Baked Bites Frisco students push for their biggest year yet

This summer was the organisation’s busiest season to date: seven to eight bake sales, pop-ups, and community collaborations, each one an opportunity to bring new people into the effort and widen what the group can fund. The model’s simplicity has proved durable. Pre-orders run through their Instagram account, keeping overhead close to zero and ensuring the margin stays with the cause rather than the operation.

Sustaining that momentum is not without its challenges. Student-led organisations rely on the availability and energy of their members, and each academic year brings the possibility of turnover. Baked Bites has so far navigated this by keeping the model lean: the fewer moving parts, the less there is to maintain when life gets complicated.

Looking further ahead, the group hopes to partner with local schools to connect students with resources and encouragement they might not otherwise encounter. It is a modest extension of the same instinct that started the organisation: help the people around you with what you have, and keep going.

For anyone in the Frisco area, Baked Bites pre-orders are open through their Instagram account, @bbaked_bites. The next purchase is one more weekend bag.
