The Optimist Daily podcast summer break arrived without a polished explanation, just an honest one: the Kristy guest episode that was due to air on 14 August 2026 is being held back so the people making it can be present for the people they love.
Arielle checked in solo to say so plainly. She and Karissa have both been travelling, showing up for family milestones, babies arriving, weddings, the kind of moments that do not reschedule around a production calendar. The Kristy conversation is coming, she said, but it needed more time.

There is a certain irony in a solutions-focused podcast failing to solve its own scheduling problem, and Arielle did not try to paper over it. ‘Maybe it’s a bit ironic for a show that covers solutions to not be able to figure out a solution to get this guest episode out on time this week,’ she said. ‘But at the same time, we’re taking a page out of our own book and leaning into slowing down and prioritising what matters in our personal lives, too.’
The show has covered research on human connection repeatedly. The argument the hosts have made on air, that investing in relationships with the people you love is one of the most powerful things a person can do, is the argument Arielle made for this week’s pause. For listeners who have managed long-distance friendships, family spread across countries or continents, or a partner in another city, she said the feeling is familiar: sometimes you put everything else down and show up.
It is a straightforward position, and the honesty of it is part of the point. A brief solo episode was the format that fit the week, and it was offered without spin.
How the show keeps running in the meantime
While the podcast catches its breath, the written side of The Optimist Daily continues on its usual rhythm.
