Scotland’s North Coast 500 Tops the Tables as UK’s Best Electric Vehicle Road Trip

Date:

The North Coast 500 in Scotland has emerged as the most accessible and stress-free road trip destination for electric vehicle (EV) drivers with more rapid chargepoints (CPs) than any other route, and a charge point every 17 miles.

As the latest Leasing.com report shows EV demand grew 106% in 2022, and data also shows staycations increased by up to 300% in 2021, EV friendly road trips are tipped to continue their popularity as a cheap alternative to flyaway holidays.

With the 516-mile NC500 coming out on top, thanks to the sheer volume of rapid chargers, reducing vehicle downtime whilst taking in some of Scotland’s most historic landmarks, its closely followed by the Coastal Way in Wales.

Beginning in Aberdaron, Wales’ best roadtrip takes you east to Porthmadog and then south to Aberystwyth where you can charge up your vehicle to then make your way down to St David’s in Pembrokeshire. The route boasts 51 charge points from start to finish meaning drivers can rest easy that they’ll complete their journey with many more miles left in the battery.

England’s most popular route is a journey through Devon and Cornwall along the Atlantic Highway, a trip that offers incredible coastal views for drivers in addition to 30 accessible charge points along its 244-mile route.

And if you’re looking to explore Northern Ireland, the Causeway Coastal Route could be the adventure for you. For a journey that can last up to five days, the nearly 200-mile drive is the ultimate scenic route taking drivers from the iconic Belfast to legendary Londonderry. With 37 charge points along the coast, there is plenty of opportunity to charge your vehicle, without sacrificing any holiday time, leaving you to visit the famous Giants Causeway amongst other popular landmarks.

Dave Timmis Founder and CEO of Leasing.com says that our most loved road trips are now more accessible to EV drivers than ever: “Since Covid became a part of our lives, many of us have taken to exploring the UK instead of going abroad, and now many of the iconic road trips are achievable in an EV. It means more of us can enjoy life on the road, while still being able to reduce our emissions and lowering our carbon footprint.”
