Definition

Content management system abbreviated as (CMS) is a software, backend system that allows managing the content websites, workflow, and collaboration online. CMS website is designed to simplify the production and publication, allowing less technically inclined users to create and publish without having to know a lot about web programming. Instead of creating your own system for creating web pages, the CMS handles all the basic infrastructure for a user, so he can focus on further processing of the website. CMS basically involves publishing, editing, modifying, organizing, and deleting content from the central interface.

Background

The history of content management system was started in 1989 when Tim Burners an internet-based hypertext system HTML and wrote the browser and server software in later 1990. Today this system is in need of time as it can manage and deliver content to the web.

CMS provides a graphical user interface with help of tools to create edit and publish web content. CMS has two components.

  • Content management application (CMA)
  • Content delivery application (CDA)

Thus discussing all the parameters of CMS we can conclude that it is very beneficial technically as well as economically. Due to its diversified featuring of creating content in an easy way has rendered it vast scope in recent times. To meet this scope of CMS, more advances are made in form of its updated features. On the other hand, its drag and drop feature for its design modes has made it easy for beginner users to create content. CMS provides a facility to control the way of publishing content and also monitor its authorization. CMS also administer to set up a rule for workflow management, guiding content managers through instructions for each of their task. Its applications in the marketplace have also attributed vast importance to virtual and digital functioning.

Contrarily, there are some features where CMS doesn’t entertain us such as transferring data to another system, difficulty in monetization.
