However, beer, as a fermented drink, produces beneficial effects in our body , especially in our intestine. According to Dr. Ramón de Cangas, it contains a bacterial diversity that improves intestinal and metabolic health , and can prevent cardiovascular problems.
We have, therefore, benefits produced by its condition as a fermented drink, and harmful effects produced by alcohol . How to find a balance?
The key is in moderate consumption. And this expert offers a recommendation that may surprise you: 1 to 2 glasses of fermented drink a day for women, and 2 to 3 glasses for men. It is quite a high amount, since other experts recommend only half a glass of wine a day, or 1 or 2 beers.
In any case, there are conditions. For the effect to be beneficial, it must be combined with exercise and a Mediterranean diet : olive oil, fresh ingredients, and lots of fruit and vegetables. So having a couple of beers with a burger won’t do … If you drink 1 or 2 beers a day it will not affect your health, but you must control aspects such as calories or alcohol tolerance, which is different for each person.
